Rochester Riverside Primary School

Fezziwig Class

Welcome to Fezziwig Class page

Hello everyone! On this page you can find out about what we are learning, our daily routines, dates for your diary and see our adventures!

The class teacher in Fezziwig class is Mrs Peal and Mrs Lawson is our teaching assistant.

At Rochester Riverside we provide the children with opportunities that engage, enthuse and spark curiosity. The children's interests are important to us and are at the heart of the learning opportunities provided. Our Riverside vision is behind everything we do as we explore together the fundamental questions of 'Who are we?' and 'How do we live?'

Who is Mr Fezziwig?

Mr Fezziwig is a character from a Charles Dickens novel called A Christmas Carol. He showed kindness, compassion and generosity towards other people in the novel- unlike Scrooge! Mr Fezziwig therefore reflects just some of the many attributes we pride ourselves in here at Rochester Riverside.

Meet our class snail

Wiggy is our class snail. Through Wiggy, and our school tortoise Bumble, we will learn about living things, what they need in order to survive and how to care for them. We will understand the importance of showing compassion towards even the smallest of living creatures.

 Our trip to the synagogue

What a wonderful trip Fezziwig class had to the Chatham Memorial synagogue! The children were so respectful as they walked around the synagogue, making sure they used quiet voices. They enjoyed handling a range of religious artefacts such as prayer books, kippahs and a piece of parchment paper from a Torah scroll. The most amazing moment was when the lady opened the Ark- we couldn't believe how beautiful the Torah scrolls were!

 Fuzziwig the Reading Lion

Look out for Fuzziwig the Reading Lion coming home from this term. Fuzziwig loves books and wants to hear as many as possible. Use the book review template in his book to share which book was read with Fuzziwig and whether or not you would recommend it to others. Happy reading!

Digital Art

This term in Art we have focused on creating self-portraits using a variety of media and materials. We have created portraits digitally through the programme J2E. If you look closely you will see that we have used a pointillism technique to colour our Art with lots of dots.

 Superhero Puppets

In DT this term, we have made Moving Superheroes using card and split pins. We had to show determination, perseverance and resilience when cutting out the parts carefully and using the spilt pins to attach them together. Our Superheroes are now proudly dangling from the ceiling of our classroom!

 DT Moving Castle pictures

Fezziwig class have enjoyed using a range of DT skills to create a moving castle picture. It took lots of patience, creativity and resilience to not give up. When our portcullis didn't move properly, we had to use our problem solving skills! Great job Fezziwig class!

 Fezziwig class trip

What a wonderful time we had at the Guildhall Museum! We loved listening to Jeremy because he told us all about knights and Rochester castle! We even had a go at firing paper rocks with catapults at a model of the castle. It was great fun! Fezziwig were true Riversiders walking to and around the museum- great job Team Fezziwig!

 DT-Sewing our Barn Owl Puppets

We designed Barn Owl puppets and thought carefully about which stitch we would like to use. The we practised our stitching before inviting our grown ups in for an afternoon of fun sewing our Barn owls! We had a chance to decorate our owls using googly eyes, felt and feathers. What fun we all had! Look at the amazing owls that we created!

NSPCC Number Day

Today we had to try and solve a really tricky number puzzle. It took real patience, perseverance, co-operation and problem solving skills. What a great feeling it was when some of us finally solved it!

 Science

In Science, Fezziwig class have been using their observation skills to dissect and then look closely at the different parts of seeds and bulbs. The children especially loved peeling off the papery tunic of the bulb in order to reveal the rest of the bulb underneath. The children used the tools safely and co-operated well with their partner or small group. We love being scientists!
